AT&T customers who filed claims in a $177 million data breach settlement could begin receiving payments in the coming weeks, following a federal judge’s final approval of the agreement.
The settlement covers two data incidents disclosed by AT&T in 2024. The court granted final approval on Oct. 2, 2026, according to the official settlement website.
If no appeal is filed, the settlement’s effective date is estimated to be Nov. 12. Payments must be distributed electronically or by paper check within 60 days of the effective date, although an exact payment date has not been announced.
The settlement totals $177 million, divided between the two data incidents: $149 million for the March 2024 incident and $28 million for the July 2024 incident.
Eligible customers could receive payments based on which incident affected their information and the type of claim they submitted.
The final amount of tiered payments has not been determined. Payments will depend on the funds remaining after administrative costs, attorneys’ fees and other court-approved expenses, as well as the number of valid claims received.
The settlement covers people whose information was involved in one or both of the 2024 data incidents.
The March incident involved personal information found in a data set released on the dark web. Depending on the individual, exposed information included names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, account passcodes, billing account numbers and Social Security numbers.
The July incident involved certain customer call and text interaction records that were downloaded from an AT&T workspace hosted on a third-party cloud platform.
The incidents potentially affected millions of current and former AT&T customers. People who qualified for the settlement would have needed to submit a claim by Dec. 18, 2025. That deadline has passed, and filing a claim now is no longer an option under the published settlement terms.
Customers who have already filed a claim can visit the official settlement website to review available information and settlement updates.
The settlement administrator, Kroll Settlement Administration, is handling the case.
Customers should be cautious of unsolicited messages requesting payment or sensitive personal information to release settlement funds. Use the official settlement website or its published phone number to verify information.
The settlement resolves the lawsuits without an admission of liability or wrongdoing by AT&T. The company has not announced a specific date when customers will receive their payments.
